Toyota: US-built Prius possibly six years away
People interested in acquiring a car lease for the next Toyota Prius may have a bit of a wait on their hands, since it was recently reported that a top executive from the Japanese automaker stated it could be six years away.
Executive Vice President Atsushi Miimi told Reuters that the motor and battery of the Prius was not mature enough for local production and that the company expected them to be ready with the next remodeling.
Originally, Toyota was set to produce the fourth generation Prius at its new Mississippi plant, but will not produce the Corolla sedan there.
The fourth generation Prius - the third generation was released in the U.S. in 2009 - is one of the most anticipated new vehicles to be released among hybrid car buyers and is expected to be released in 2016.
July 27 was the 10-year anniversary of Toyotas launch of what has now become one of the most popular hybrid cars on the market, despite early reviews of the car that said the car was not an economical or practical solution to the countrys energy needs.
