Mustang fans await the new Boss
Fans of the Mustang muscle car may be wondering how to break a car lease on their current vehicle as they await the arrival of Ford's 2012 Mustang Boss 302.
As a company that often spins off new versions of its classic models, Ford hasn't dubbed a vehicle with the "Boss" name since 1970, according to Edmund's Inside Line.
Now the company is finally sharing some details of the long-awaited sports car, which will boast a 5.0-liter, V8 engine with manual transmission, carefully tuned to spin out 440 horsepower and scream as fast as 7,500 rpm. Those specifications make this the strongest engine Ford has ever put in a Mustang without a turbo charger, the news source said.
Although the new engine adds 150 more horsepower than its 40-year-old namesake, the company insists that the two cars share a common design theme.
"The first Boss 302 was a specially built, free-breathing, high-revving small-block V8 that gave it certain characteristics on a race course - and we capture that essence in the new engine," Ford's V8 program manager Mike Harrison told the site.
The new car even posts the same mileage ratings as the original Mustang GT, with 17 miles per gallon in the city and 26 on the highway.
