Lessees get first glimpse of Ford's newly redesigned explorer next week
There was a time when the Ford Explorer was at the forefront of
car leasing. As one of the most popular vehicles in the American market, the SUV all but dominated the market throughout much of the 90s. Unfortunately, the SUV bubble burst and drivers hoping for more fuel efficient vehicles went elsewhere for their driving needs. Now Ford is trying to reignite American drivers' passion for the Explorer with a newly redesigned body and engine set to debut this Monday.
The vehicle, which will debut online - a first for the industry - is set to go on sale this winter, and sees the SUV re-imagined as a more efficient crossover meant to compete with the Honda Pilot, Toyota 4Runner and GMC Acadia.
Ford's decision to reveal the vehicle online before taking it on the road to auto shows across the country is part of the company's strategy to create a buzz about the new vehicle.
"We wanted to have the Explorer stand out," Eric Peterson, Ford's manager of crossover marketing and communications, told the Automotive News.
The company has been tight-lipped on specifics for the new vehicle, though more may be revealed when the vehicle lands at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
