Ford creating new powertrains for popular F-150 line
Ford has always had at least moderate success with its various
cars for lease, though never on the scale of the company's trucks. The popular F-series has been consistently among the best-selling vehicles in the country due to their rugged nature and appealing looks. Now the company is hoping to renew interest in the vehicles and comply with newly enacted efficiency standards by introducing three new powerrain options for the country's best-selling truck line.
Beginning in 2011, F-150s will have the option of a 3.7-liter V-6, a 5.0-liter V-8 and a turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 with EcoBoost when it comes time for leasing or purchase. Two of these engines were previously released as part of the recently renovated Mustang, according to the Automotive News.
All will come with a standard six-speed automatic, according to the news source.
The new powertrains will boost the vehicle's fuel efficiency while enhancing the horsepower and torque, and will be the first V-6 offered in an F-150 since 2008.
"We are always looking to broaden the appeal of our products to give consumers the vehicle that best suits their needs," Ford Spokesman Richard Truett told the press.
