Families can line up to lease BMW's new Mini Countryman
While the brand has proven popular across all market segments, a healthy cross section of drivers that
lease BMW do not have families. In an effort to create a stronger presence for the German automaker in one of the most valuable demographics in the industry, BMW has announced plans to introduce a new Countryman Crossover under its Mini line in the coming years.
The vehicle, which goes on sale in Europe in September with an American release possibly coming as soon as early 2011, will be a four-door crossover and the brand's largest model to date. Spokesmen for Mini believe the vehicle will help the brand gain a foothold in a powerful automotive segment.
"Our main aim is to unlock a wholly new target audience," product manager Hans-Joachim Leonhardt said in an interview with the Automotive News. "Young families with kids, sporty youngsters, folks from modern milieus - everyone can now drive a Mini."
The Countryman is at the forefront of a new direction for the brand, which some analysts view as a sort of "starter car" for customers that may eventually upgrade to a more expensive BMW in the future.
