Drivers hoping to lease Mercedes' 2012 CLS may be in for a few surprises
Mercedes-Benz is planning a number of changes to its luxurious executive-size sedan, the CLS that will provide customers with a whole new driving experience in the classy German auto. Drivers keen to
lease Mercedes' new CLS will get their first glimpse at the mysterious vehicle in early October.
The vehicle, which boasts the hatchback-like "shooting break" body style, began as a detailed sculpture glimpsed primarily as a silhouette at this year's Detroit Auto Show. Since then, the redesigned CLS has been something of a mystery for Mercedes fans.
Recently released publicity photos show several new elements to the vehicle, including a long, elegant hood, a prominent grille and firmer contour lines that make for a unique and striking body shape. Other design features new to the 2012 model include rounder wheel arches, drooping lines between the wheel wells and firmly molded door panels that contrast nicely with the smooth, swooping hood.
Mercedes views the redesign as a bold new direction that still represents the line's proud lineage.
"The new CLS points the way forward for the future perceptible design idiom of Mercedes-Benz," the company's design head, Gorden Wagener, told the Automotive News. "At the same time, it takes its inspiration from the great tradition of stylish, refined sportiness which has always been a feature of Mercedes coupes."
